My name is Kathryn Pap, MSN, PMHNP-BC, and I founded Northbound Psychiatry after seeing how difficult it can be for many Michigan communities, especially more rural areas, to access quality mental health care. My goal was to create a practice that feels approachable, personal, and centered around truly listening to patients.
I have worked in healthcare throughout most of my adult life. I began my healthcare journey as a CNA after graduating from Marquette Senior High School, working at a local nursing home in the Marquette area. Since then, I have worked as a nurse for nearly ten years and later continued my training to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
After graduating, I moved to North Carolina to gain additional clinical experience and continue developing my skills in psychiatric care. While working in mental health, I often found myself thinking about home and the need for more accessible mental health resources in communities like the one I grew up in.
That experience helped shape the vision for Northbound Psychiatry: providing thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care while making sure patients feel heard, respected, and understood as individuals. I believe mental health care works best when it is collaborative, individualized, and built on genuine human connection.
Northbound Psychiatry is a Michigan-rooted outpatient mental health practice focused on compassionate, individualized psychiatric care. I look forward to getting to know the community and building a practice where people feel supported, comfortable, and genuinely cared for.
